Accessibility guidance

As part of my work with Capita I have been involved in advocating the need for accessible solutions across government projects, and how accessibility and inclusive design needs to be considered from the very start of a project and maintained all the way through to delivery. Accessibility is something which the entire product team is responsible for, and as part of advocating this message I created a series of posters illustrating how different job roles within our scrum teams could own their part of accessibility and what steps they should take to address it.

UX Designers and Content Designers

The following posters list some elements that should be considered by the UX design team when ensuring their proposed designs are considering accessibility best practices, and for content design teams guidance is around ensuring content will be accessible for all and simple to understand.

Developers and QA or Testers

The following posters list what areas of development can be considered to make certain components accessible to assistive technologies and users in general, and from a QA and testing point of view what responsibilities can be taken from a technical testing perspective.

Accessibility Audit

The following poster illustrates some of the activities which will take place as part of an accessibility audit, and how the responsibilities other team members have been involved in relate to the audit itself.
